Episode 3 - Derrick Aguis

Derrick Aguis is a performer and teacher at the Annoyance Theater in Chicago. He was a member of Theatre Strike Force from 2000 to 2004, The Sunday Group, and Director of The Apprentice Group. He was also a member of the groups Unlike Nav and Stacy’s Away Message, two of the best improv groups to ever come out of the Gainesville Comedy Scene.

Derrick talks about his era of TSF, which was arguably the most successful TSF has ever been. Not only did everyone at UF know TSF, but “everybody knew every person in TSF”. He explains what “sold him” on the Annoyance Theater over other improv and sketch theaters in the city. We also got into Vanessa Bayer and Paul Brittain’s involvement at the Annoyance before they got picked up for SNL last season.

Back on the Arackast

Hey guys,

I was on the latest Arackast and I had a lot of fun. We talked about the origins and purpose of this podcast and my stand up endeavors.

The Gainesville Comedy Scene Podcast has been on hiatus. I’m sorry for that. Over the next week, I will put out the next episode. I have six interviews in the bank and over the next two weeks I will have a lot of free time. Hopefully, this will tide your over.

Thanks,

Rudy

Episode 2 - Andy St. Clair

Andy is an alum of the Second City Mainstage, a performer at the iO Theater with 3033, and is the host of the TV show Treasure Hunters Roadshow.

We talk about his audition for SNL, where he was asked to do a Harold with Jack McBrayer (30 Rock), TJ Jagodowski (Stranger than Fiction, TJ & Dave), and Paul Scheer (Human Giant). This was the same year Fred Armisen made the cast.

Andy reminisces about performing for Second City in Las Vegas at the Flamingo Hotel and Casino and goes into detail about his run working “The Best Comedy Job in Chicago.”

I got back from Chicago yesterday. Before I left I interviewed current performer at iO and past president of TSF, Jamison Webb.

I also got the chance to record a great conversation with one of my best friends, Tony Kolt.

Look out for the Episode with Andy St. Clair sometime soon. That one is going to be pretty good.

I had a great talk today with Danny Mora at the iO offices about TSF then and now.

Also, I’m doing my set at Just for Laughs in about four hours.

Pretty exciting.

Recorded a great talk with Andy St. Clair at the iO Theater.

Then I watched a Cubs game at Wrigley Field.

Now I’m at the Annoyance Theater recording an interview with TSF alum and Annoyance teacher Derrick Aguis.

It’s been a cool day.
